Pull engine to remove tranny? Help?!

After swapping 6 for 8 and going with 350TH, my used tranny needs work, but it seems I must pull the engine to get the tranny out. I did put them IN assembled but I thought I would be able to remove the tranny seperate if problems occurred. Anyone?

Im not sure about your specific model but with most cars you can remove the tranny without removing the engine. You will have to remove the tranny crossmember and then unbolt the tranny from the engine. Maybe someone else can help you a little better than me.

You might want to read the tech article about tranny swaps. They are pretty descriptive about the process of removing the tranny without removing the engine.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, Its a 1985 Firebird that I swapped out the 2.8 v-6 for 350 v-8. Everything is loose, but the bell housing won't clear the under body,

Transmission: 700R4
So basically you're saying you need to raise the car higher? I had to do that when I dropped my 700r4 out... the bellhousing was an inch or so to tall to pull the trans out from underneath. It was such a trivial height and that's what ticked me off. "Why didn't I just raise the car a bit more? Damn!"

Thanks, but no. The car is up high enough, the tranny is dangling. It's hung on the torque converter, and the bell housing won't clear the under body,
Thanks for your response

Are you actually trying to pull the tranny off the converter and leave it on the flywheel or is this a joke! LOL

FireChicken, you will need to unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel and remove the tranny and converter together.
