did all 9-bolt cars get aluminum driveshafts?

A guy I know told me that his car had an aluminum driveshaft, then he says "all cars with 9-bolts have an aluminum driveshaft, it was part of the package"

is that true?

No. I have an '89 Iroc-z w/9-bolt, with rear disks, I just last weekend pulled out the rusty stock steel shaft to replace with new G.M. aluminum shaft. So, not on my car.

There's a pattern here. Apparently most/all 87s and 89s came with the steel shaft but it's pretty common for 88s to have AL. Maybe the supplier was running a special on AL shafts that year?

I've noticed that too. A lot of 88 cars came with aluminum driveshafts. I dunno what it is.

9-bolt rears have nothing to do with whether your car has an aluminum driveshaft or not, so inform the guy you know that he is wrong.
