Can't get input assembly out!

This is actually on a 4L60E, but I understand that it is the same. The input shaft and clutch assembly won't come out! The manual I have says it should come right out (although the book is for a 700, not 4L60E) Is something messed up in there, or something? Is this a common thing?

The trans is coming apart because it lost 3rd and 4th (3-4 clutch pack, man the fluid was dark!)

Thanks in advance!

Short block sitting on a stand. (Man, those Fast-Burn heads sitting on it look good!)

Did you remove the 1-2 apply servo on the side of the transmission? If not, most likley to not come out.

Yeah, I have the band and the first drum out, but I can't get the one out that the input shaft connects to. I have now been told that either the planetaries are broken, or the clutches are seized together, so I just need to use some brute force.

Thanks.

Try twisting it rapidly while lifting. It supposed to come right out...

Once the band is out of the way, the input housing should lift straight up, even if the "first drum" (reverse input housing) still in there or not. Sounds like something is damaged and either "welded" itself together, or just got stuck.

Well, I got it out. It was the infamous 3-4 clutch pack that had welded itself together. It took a strategically placed prybar and someone tugging just the right way on the input shaft.

This transmission seems to be pretty simple as far as rebuilding goes. It's MUCH easier than Chrysler's A-604!

I'm now having problems with the 3-4 clutch pack going back together. The kit I got has the thicker steels, but not the revised retainer plate (I forget exactly what it's called, but the plate that goes on last under the snap ring)

Thanks for replying!
