Torque Lock Up
i went down to a hot rod shop and they said my tranny which is a 700r4 should be fine as long as i keep my computer in there. Im swapping from tbi to carb and they said i should be fine. i dont need a switch or the tci kit. i just need to get the kick down cable right so i dont burn it up.

Re: Torque Lock Up
The computer won't have the sensors it needs to control the TCC anymore, you still need to provide some sort of lockup control.

Re: Torque Lock Up
thats really weird the computer doesnt have sensors though the tranny does (thats what they said)(this is what they should i should do) because im not taking any of the wires out im just cutting back the wires from the motor and i am leaving everything still in the car now idk what to do listen here or listen to guys that build 500+ engines right in there shop.

Re: Torque Lock Up
the 700r4 in your year can have no wires to it and be O.K., it just won't get lockup. it will still shift all four gears o.k. and be o.k.-t.v. cable is the only required hookup or pump pressure will go low and smoke it.
I prefer to use a th400 connector to replace the four prong one for custom installation. the pan would need to be removed and the t.c.c. sol wires cut. Take the black and hook it directly up to the fourth switch. Take the red and hook it up directly to the th400 connector. Now when the trans goes to fourth the N.O. (normally open) fourth switch will provide a ground to the system allowing lockup in fourth only. Just provide power to the single th400 connector whenever you want it to lock(providing the trans is in fourth and the switch is prividing the ground only in that gear).. Use a vacuum activated switch, toggle etc.... just make sure to provide a interrupt to the system through the brake. throw the rest of the wiring in the trans in the trash. cheap and simple-the th400 connector costs about $5, and the trans internally has enough wire to do it. NOTE:the fourth switch is the one closest to the 1-2 accumulator housing(the one with 3 10mm bolts not the one with 2 10mm and 1 8mm)

Re: Torque Lock Up
the t.v. cable is the wire cable that pulls that hooks to your engine. that needs to be connected at all times or transmission damage will occur.
the square wiring plug can be disconnected to help diag. your rpm problem.

Re: Torque Lock Up
is that "TV cable" just your passing gear linkage?? in my 88 im going from TB! to carb as well, and im leaving EVERY wire there, its just behind the dash now instead on top the engine. my plug is connected on top of the trans. its like a 4 prong plug or whatever and im confused on what your "TV cable" is. and i read somewhere you can use your ALDL to rig up a converter lock up switch and you aint gotta pull your tranny pan off. id just like to get facts from opinions
