Open the throttle all the way and extend the TV cable as far as it will go. That way when it's floored, the TV cable is pulled to the max.

To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas peddle while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all of the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the peddle floored, press the D button and pull the cable back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas peddle all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again.

Those methods work? Seems like you'd be giving the trans way too much fluid pressure...

Here's what I do. In general, a TV cable that's pulled forward (out of the adjuster) results in lowered line (fluid) pressure, which gives you a softer & earlier shift, AND burns up your clutches due to lack of fluid. When the cable's slid backward into the adjuster, you get a harder & later shift, as a result of increased line pressure.

You can't increase line pressure too much though, because the cable will reset itself as soon as you mash the gas pedal to the floorboard. You can get 1 or three clicks out of the TV adjuster in the "backward" direction. I say adjust the TV cable as the book says, then fine-tune the shifts by pushing the D-button in, and moving the shift cable back "in" towards the firewall by 1 click. Then, yank the throttle body blades to WOT (with engine off of course). If the cable stays put, try going back another click, and trying WOT again. If the cable resets itself at WOT, then you went 1 click too far.

The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. Using the method I posted earlier puts everything back to Zero. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does. If that doesn't provide the shift quality you want, it is time to recalibrate the tranny. I prefer the TransGo High Performance Shift Kit for this.

When I adjust the TV cable and pull down on the throttle I don't here this rachet or click sound does this mean the cable is bad.
