HELP! Tranny and/or rear end messed up? HELP!

hey guys, heres the problem....... when i am at a complete stop and give my car half throttle or more..... i here a clunk type sound coming from my transmission area. sometimes its there sometimes its not, on a side note i here sometimes the same clunk from my rear end. its hard to really hear exactly where tho since my exhaust is really loud. headers-custom y-pipe-single chamber flowmaster dumped under passeger door

i have a shift kit installed in the trans... been in since june/july.... not exactly sure. i also just installed a torsen diff with gm 3.42 gears about a month ago. everything was fine and the car felt great alto i thought i detected a hint of gear whine. didnt pay to much attention since its been stated on here often that they do that some. then about a week ago i had an extra throttle body from my 93' silverado. i did the untimate TBI mods to it and put it in place of the stocker. it didnt have a *** for the t.v. cable so i fabed one up. well the spot for the t.v. cable ended up being about and inch farther away than stock, so i just adjusted the tv cable. after that the shifts were super firm and about 2 days after that i herd the click/clunk noise. it doesnt do it tho when i cruise/baby it, only hard acceration from a stop/crawl in 1st gear and hard downshifts from 2/3 gear to 1st gear. basically when peak torque is applied i guess.

any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. i am assuming that maybe the torque converter craped out or the rear end needs to be reset or both. sorry for the long post, but hopefully someone can guide me in the right direction.

I'd say that it is a transmission problem, but here are some things to check. Check the u joints first. Then check the pinion. It is not uncommon for the pinion nut to loosen up and allow the pinion bearings to become loose. Hold the pinion yoke and see if you can push it up and down or in and out. If you can then you need to get it fixed right now. I say this because you mentioned that you can hear a little gear noise.

I would first check the transmission cross member. There is a mount that always seems to go out and it seems like from your description, that may be your problem.

Check the easy possibilities first. If the mount proves to be the culprit, I'd suggest a poly mount.

Re: HELP! Tranny and/or rear end messed up? HELP!

thanks a bunch for those ideas guys, i'll be sure to check them all tomorrow.... hopefully it will only be the trans mount or a u joint.... gota make the income tax check last!

Edit: do any local auto parts stores sell polly mounts? i looked on autozone and says its special order. also what would be the benifit of the poly mount vs. a standard rubber mount? stiffer/stronger???

now that i think about it that sounds like the most resonable answer because it sounds like something is hitting some thin metal like the floor or trans pan. but no fluid has leaked out so thats a good sign. good thing im not driving it. havent had a chance to actually get under there and look tho, kids have been sick, but i will update asap.

and thanks again for all the replys and suggestions, i knew there was a reason i always visit the site. TGO rocks
