Shifting problem at WOT

I got embarressed by a rice racer last night because my car would not shift into second until I let off the gas for a long time. It was like there was some kind of rev limiter. It does this before every gear. I just had new gears and the tranny rebuilt with a shift kit. I know that with the shift kit I need to let my foot off the gas to shift but it is not shifting like it should at all. I also upgraded from TPI 305 to TPI 355. Could this have something to do with it?lease help. Thank You

I would suspect a TV cable problem. There is a tech article on adjusting it, or I am sure someone else could describe it better than me. Until you get it fixed don't race any car especially a *****, I had a similar problem for about 3 weeks , the TV cable was out of adjustment and I had no second gear, I knew that if a ***** pulled up they would have a good chance of winning, you just have to back off and wait until later.

To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal floored, press the D button and pull the cable back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.

That being said, what RPM did it shift WOT before the trans work. Second was it a true Shift Kit or was something like a B&M? As long as no one either messed up the TV Limit system or changed the governor, the WOT shift points should not have changed. What RPM does this occur? Does it happen on the 2-3 shift also?

One: You do not have a Shift Kit. Two: Someone may have changed the Governor to one that is out of range for your engine. What RPM do you have to back off the gas? What RPM did it used to shift WOT at?

This sounds like you could have a fuel problem, such as a restricted filter or weak fuel pump. Maybe you could get a fuel pressure gauge (not one of the cheap ones in the store, this has to handle at least 50 PSI) and hook it up and see what is happening there.

You will need to see what happens when the actual problem occurs.
