4L60e straight swap?

Is it a straight swap over? what if any modifications are necessary to make the 4L60e work with the 305 in my car currently? i was thinkin ide rebuild the 700r4 but ive got a good line on a few 4L60e's bc of my other trucks. what kind of numbers will a stock 4L60e handle and what are the common things beefed up on these trannys?

what kind of work goes into repining the wiring harness and is there a certain route i can go ecm/pcm wise that will make it any easier?

Re: 4L60e straight swap?

The 4l60e is computer controlled meaning the computer tells it when to shift instead of the 700r4 where you have a tv cable.

4L60E= electronic
4L60= 700r4

I aint no expert but its common sence that you will need another computer and your current computer will def. not control it.

If you are asking as far as fitment goes, yes it will be a straight swap

if you're talkin about using a four cylinder transmission from your s-10 avitar you're mistaken. the bellhousing is completely different.
there are stand alone computers available for approx $1000.
see, the 700r4 is more cost contious and can handle more power IMO.

Re: 4L60e straight swap?

nice try. not your six either.
LOL> not trying to be funny, just a little humor.
you'll have to spring for a v8 core. doh.
there might be small and large bell for the 6 if it's a newer removeable one 1997 up. school me.
T.C.I. makes a standalone computer
you could also make a no computer 4l60e I think? I'm not sure how they get the pressure correct as the pressure is controlled by a pressure control solenoid.
You would have to manually shift it all the time as a side note as no automatic functions would exist. a major issue to driveability.
if the six trans fits, the converter would stall pretty high in a v8
I see the ghost graphic.

answering my own question, 4l60E-3 Stick shift kit (made by Transgo)
no electrical needed: includes vacuum pressure control.
cool stuff but still requires rowing it. Might as well get a manual trans to row it all the time.
row row row row your trans....LOL

The vacuum line pressure control is often reccomended, even for those with 4l60e ecu's(4th gens, etc) who can still utilize computer controlled shift points. The vac control negates the possibility of a tune error killing the trans. - That is honestly the only real weak point of a 4l60e vs a 4l60.

Re: 4L60e straight swap?

knowing that, I may decide on a 4l60e v.s. a 700r4 for my next project/36 chev p/u.
good additional info of the vacuum-appreciated.

- I'm sure you know the internals themselves are the same (better in newer models) in the "e" and the 700. The VB and case are the only real difference.

Proper line pressure is a major key in keep these trans alive, so if the tuner doesn't set the programming up correctly, or if the control motor has any issues, they eat themselves. - The vacuum conversion eliminates that issue.

Re: 4L60e straight swap?

4L60E is a bolt in modification if you swap to a TBI truck PCM and add a few wires to run the truck DRAC module.

It will bolt onto the early 4l60e's. The later trans(has removable bellhousing) has a 6-bolt tailhousing thus will not accept the 4-bolt tailhousings.
