Switching to a TH350

I just picked up a turbo 350 in good shape last night that was recently rebuilt, torque converter installed, shift kit, crossmember and steel driveshaft.

I was told to find some torque arm brackets and I'll need a shifter.

Where can i find these? Ebay has a pretty limited selection so I was hoping a vendor could help me out.

It's going into an 87 carbed Iroc, replacing a beat 700r4. My only plans for the th350 are a manual valvebody and probably a B&M Megashifter. It shouldn't flinch from the 305, but it'll soon be behind a carbed ls1 (in the collecting swap parts phase).

I have to ask what kind of car the package came off of due to the driveshaft. Most of the time when preforming that swap you need a longer drive shaft, most local machine shops will do it though for aroun $150 - $200. Pretty sue Hawks also sells them for just such a swap and they're aluminum.

Re: Switching to a TH350

The trans was in a third gen, and I got the d/s for it. And I don't think "most of the time" is the right thing to say. It depends on if it's a long tail or short tail. I *think* the short tail works with the stock d/s. The one I have does not because I think the shaft is a little shorter.

I'm no mechanic, but I'm pretty sure I am correct. I encourage some input, though.

The driveshaft for '83-'92 third gens will work with a long tailshaft th350, if you have an '82 third gen, then you need a short tailshaft th350 to work with your stock driveshaft.

Re: Switching to a TH350

Wassup All. I did this swap with my 92 bird 2 summers ago. Went pretty smoothly. I bought a torque arm bracket but didnt need it as i was told from the muscle car shop. I just took the bracket off of my 700r4 and put it on my TH350. I would check to see if you can switch the brackets when you remove the 700. I got my 90 dollars back. Yes, you driveshaft will be shorter. i went to a junkyard and got driveshaft put it in the trans and measured the length from my trans to the rearend. I used the same yoke from my old 700 and had the shop cut it and weld it on to my new shaft. I had no problems. Only cost me $40 bucks for the welding. I'm not telling u to do what I did but just letting ya know how it did it.
