9 Bolt Gears

I currently have a 9 bolt rear with 2.77 ratio gears installed, stock. What is the highest ratio gear that will fit in this rear and where can these be found? Im really looking for something in the 3.40 range (not sure how 9 bolts run). Any help or info is appreciated.

Thanks

unfortunately, your stuck just like i am. 89 model L98 with 2.77 gears in the 9 bolt. there arent any gears avalable for the 2 series carrier for the 9 bolt. there are 3.70's and 3.73's that you can get for the 3 series carrier (3.27's, 3.42's). some guy on here says he will have 3.73s and 4.10s avalable soon as well as 3 series carriers for sale. im sure he will chime in. if you dont wanna wait, get a 10 bolt from any 90-92 camaro or firebird at a junkyard. they are all the same rear no matter if its a z28, rs, trans am, gta, firebird. then you could get it rebuilt tougher with a wider selection of gear ratios.

Whoa... they only come with like 3.27, 3.42, and 3.70, but I think you also need a 3-series carrier to run them. Good luck finding parts for the 9-bolt too. Cha-Ching!

10-bolts come in many different combos...

I can not believe it is taking as long as it has to get this to work out (ie having parts available). I know the parts exist, because I personally installed them (3.73 not 3.70) in my car last month.

They still won't be as cheap as the 7.5 ten bolts, but ratios to 4.11 will be available. When everything is finalized, I will post here.

Currently installing 3.73's into my 9 bolt (YES,it is a 9 bolt & YES they are 3.73's, not 3.70. 4.11's to follow soon )
