ATTN:PROBUILT, or anyone else who can help...transgo installed, but problems now...

ok, so i just got done installing my transgo kit finally. It does have more of a positive shift to it now, however not nearly as hard as i was expecting. No tire barking, nothing. Also at WOT it will not shift into 3rd. I have to let off the gas a little for it to shift. Im hoping i adjusted the TV cable wrong or something, cause if i spent this much time and money for these barely harder shifts im going to be very upset. Although i do have some kuhmos that are only a couple months old, but with the shift kit the 1-2 shift should still bark them right? Any ideas what this might be guys??? Anything other then the tv cable being adjusted wrong. The only other thing i can think of is i once heard that if you havent adjusted your tv cable for a very long time when you do adjust it, it can screw your shifts up. Im, not sure if the previous owners ever adjusted the TV cable, so might this be the problem? Uggh...i cant believe i spent the last 4 days working on this thing, and this is all i get. I was so ready for those tire barking, rearend moving shifts. Please help!!!

No matter what shift Kit you install, If Your Motor has No *****, Its Not going to Chirp the tires

Mine Chirps Them without a Shift kit when its cold, and its a lg4 !

Well thanks for that nice little reply...Even though its not the fastest engine around, im pretty sure an L03 should be able to chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift with a transgo. Even so, im still looking for an answer as far as the 3rd gear problem. If the only thing that was wrong was it wouldnt chirp, then i might believe its just the engine...but considering it isnt that hard of a shift, and no 3rd at WOT im thinking its something else. The only other possibility is since it gives you full manual control (but retains the automatic features)...maybe i need to have it in overdrive. But it shifts from 1-2 in drive, so i doubt thats the problem. Anyone else have any ideas?

well man you have to keep in mind that your tranny has high mileage. Maybe you were hoping for too much. Also, while you were installing it, there should have been an option for shift firmness... I think there are different washers you can use or something, I forget. Which option did you go with? I have the 2-3 shift problem too, I think it's my worn out TV cable not allowing enough line pressure to build that's at fault.
oh and 'Bort', are you saying your LG4 has more ***** than an L03? Because it doesn't.

mrj, i went with 2 washers. I would go back in and add another washer...but gosh...i think im done for this week with tranny fluid showers. And yes my tranny does have high miles. I talked to a different shop then before though about rebuilding with the transgo in there. The shop i talked to was recommended by many people i know. He was very knowledgable, and he told me it would be no problem to rebuild the tranny with the transgo in...so i went ahead and installed it.
So does putting it into overdrive correct your 2-3 shift, or do you have to just let off the gas a little?

See if they can figure out what the problem is. Damn this sucks. We spent so much time on this thing and im sure we put it all back together right.

Depending on what gear ratio you have, which 2nd gear accumulator you have, the condition of of 2-4 band, how strong your engine is, etc. These are all varables that come into play when you want the transmission to do what you want. Did the trans shift into 3rd at WOT before? If the condition of the clutches (3-4) are near their end, or the sealing rings have a lot of cross leaks, etc., then they might not try to engage. There are many different things that might not allow 2-3 WOT shifts. The kit comes with heavy duty replacement springs for the foreard & 3-4 clutch pack. When you have transmission rebuilt have the builder install all of them. I recommend using the Borg Warner Hi-Energy 3-4 clutches (8) in this clutch pack and keep the clearence at around .040-.055. If you tell me what gear ratio you have?, then I can tell you what the 2nd gear accumulator should be.
I would use the BW Hi-Energy band in the 2-4 application. This is the best band on the market for durability & shiftability (shift feel) The kit should have a white 2nd gear accumulator spring, make sure you it is still available. You might need it based on what accumulator you have. Give me a call at 800 7763288 Mon-Sat 10-6 PST. Hope this helps!!!

Off topic, but curious....where are you located, ProBuilt? My car is up in miles, and I want to beef up/replace the tranny before I blow it. Could you build one, I drive to you and swap with mine, given a time frame? How much for a manual body, 2800 stall? Feel free to e-mail me. Thanx!

Probuilt...thanks for the info...i adjusted my tv cable again...and at first had no third gear at all, played with it some more, now i have 3rd gear, and it will shift at WOT, only now i dont have overdrive...it will go into overdrive...however as soon as i press on the gas the rpms jump up, kinda like being in the wrong gear in a manual. Ill play with it some more...the shifts are a little harder now, ill probably just take apart the second accumulator housing and add another washer next weekend.

If you are in overdrive and give it throttle and the rpm's come up a little (200-400 rpm), it sounds like the clutch in the torque converter coming on & off. You should be able to grab the lever out of overdrive and bring it back to third and the rpm's should go up about 35%.
Hope This Helps!!!
