Sounds like the tranny is swithing back and forth from 3rd and 4th gear. There's always been that fine line with GM trannies. Either that or the torque conv. is locking and unlocking. Try cruising at 45 with the tranny in 3rd. If it don't do it then it's the 3rd to 4th problem. Not really a problem, just a characteristic. Does the car sputter when coming to a stop? My 87 Celebrity did that for a while, then it would die, kinda like a manual trans. I guess the switch for the lock up on the converter was keeping it locked. I dunno if this relates to your prob., but it might. My point is, the lock up switch thingy could be messed up. HEHE!!!!

Disconnect the EGR valve and see if it still does it.

Its tough to tell what kind of jerk the car is doing over the internet, but an EGR valve getting vac. at the wrong time or in the wrong amount will cause a jerk. This will seem quite noticable.

How are the wires, etc??

I'm not suggesting un-hooking it permanately, just to drive around and see if it cures the problem.

This will tell you if the prob. is in the EGR system......

Process of elimination my friend.

Ok I'll do that and see what happens.. Thanks... BTW on my engine... Becuase I haven't looked under the hood lately.. is the EGR valve located at the bottom of the engine?

The EGR valve should be visable from the top, somewhere on the intake manifold.

I'll second Engineboy's diagnosis on the EGR. Even before the computers, EGR was notorious for causing that uneven feeling at steady speeds. Disconnecting it solved many drivability problems.

However, disconnecting the EGR in your car (or any other computer-controlled engine) would produce massive pinging and the idiot computer will not automatically richen the mixture to compensate. Still, it ought to run a little smoother.

The EGR valve has a large brass-colored top with a vacuum hose coming out of it. As Engineboy said, it is on top of the engine. It may be located off to one side near one of the exhaust manifolds. I'm not familiar with the 3.1 V6 but most EGR valves are that way.
