WEll, it wasnt as easy as i thought it would be i took apart the console and got the stock shifter out then realized i had to pu all these lines in and i didnt have jackstands or ramps to get under the tranny to put the bracket on. Should've said something, you could've borrowed my jack. I don't know how different the B&M cable is from the stock one, but I've changed the shifter cable on my car without jacking it up.

I just recently bought one too. It's far from a bolt in. Luckily I have a welder and a chop saw. I used my original cable and just cut the bracket off of the old and new one and welded the old one on. Had to drill out the cable hole about a 64th to fit onto the shifter then I drilled one hole and used one original hole then tack welded the rest in.
I think it could have been made better. And that cable they give you is wayyyy toooo long.

Yep, only problem I had with my Megashifter was cutting the console top. I used a cutting tip on a high-wattage soldering iron- it came out good, and I got the bonus of stinking up the basement for a week!

It was definately worth it, though. I used the B&M cable, and even wired up the idle control relay mentioned in the instructions.

My installation was a breeze, for my Dad anyways, since I know just about nothing about working on cars. It took about 3 1/2 hours and the stock cable worked great, didn't even have to get under the car. Just had to drill a hole through the new bracket and use the stock bracket and so far everything is good.

So do I. The console Dual Gate is about a 1/2 hour install, uses all the factory cables and wiring.

My shifter has 2 cables? wtf one goes down to thesteering column and dissapears and the other to the tranny i could only find one spot to hook it up to the shifter... So i gave up after like 4 hrs and just took it down to a shop... they said it would be a lot of work but they'd do it thenthey called my house 4 times while i was at work maybe to tell me it was ready regardless they locked it up inside.. i went by to see it i barely made anything out from where it was in the shop but i think i saw the chromed shifter ****... heh now im just worried they used that big box that the shifter comes with to mount it on and said f the console but they couldnt have been that stupid could they?

The cable to the steering column is the park-lock cable. I don't think the B&M uses it.

Is the dual gate a Hurst? Is it a ratchet type? Does it install that easily into a Firebird? I have a brand new unopened Mega Shifter from Summit sitting in the garage, just haven't had the time to install it. Frankly, after reading all the negative posts I'm really dreading the install and I'm thinking about exchanging it for something easier. Opinions?

alright so they bolted it up fixed some **** in the tranny for me... I LOVE IT i bought the megashifter with a hammer handle it feels so sweet, it's sitting in my driveway right now i like the way the Chrome burns your hand if you dont coverit... the B&M doesnt use the steering columcable. It took a 10 min drive around to get used to having to slam it up that hard im loving the no skip shift and the reverse lockout have to be in neutral to go into park or reverse.. Now all i gotta do is hook up the console. Any recommendations? Should i cut the little bar off of the top of the shifter? or cut the ashtray?any suggestions?

Steve, the shifter is the best thing since sliced bread, frankly i wouldnt have changed a thing. The only problem is the console everything else can be done relatively easy.. but it's time consuming i just got someone to do it for me because im scared of tranny's It looks and feels great i'll get some pics up soon
