Having some tranny trouble with my 87
Having some tranny trouble with my 87
My trans in my 87 went a-wall on me today. So I was looking for what transmission goes in it. I thought it was the 700R4 but as I was looking around I discovered that the 2.8 has a different bellhousing than the V8's and the 700R4 I thought was a 90* bellhousing and the 2.8 is a 60* v6. So my question is what trans is in this car. Is it the TH200 or the TH2004R or the 700R4
.
It sucks cause I am about 8 months from doing the motor and trans swap.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

re: Having some tranny trouble with my 87
There are 2 different cases for the 700R-4. One for the Chevy V8 and 4.3L V6/90, The other fits the 2.8/3.1/3.4L V6/60. Both versions are 700R-4s, but the V8 version also has better internals. Still, the valvebodies and tailshaft housings do physically interchange, as do the servos and governors and TV cables, and the gear ratios are the same.

Thanks, this answers a lot of questions. I had found a site that showed all the different pans and mine is a 700r4 pan so I was really confused. lol anyways this make sense, now on to looking for a new transmission. ty again!
