Should I be worried about my tranny?
It's an auto from a 91 firebird. As far as I know it is stock but I'm not entirely sure because I am like the 5th owner. It shifts firm at WOT, and very smoothly at normal acceleration. The reason I asked was because I had a friend ride with me and he said it wasn't supposed to be that hard of a shift. And how would I know if there is something wrong with my tranny such as slipping? Would I be able to hear it? Thanks
I bet you have a corvette servo. It shifts hard in WOT, but smooth during normal acceleration. My Corvette Servo would kick me sideways in the 1st to second shift in WOT. Remember...I had a 2.73 open differential. That was plenty hard enough for me. If you have a 'Vette Servo, then it is completely normal for what you are describing. The servo is real easy to install, and it's 30 bucks. More than likely it has one. The servo is a very common mod. Some would say it would extend 3rd gear's life. I can honestly say I am very happy with it. Streetable firm shifts for a cheap price...and a basic install.

Pull the pan and look. Get a drain pan and new fluid and look to see if you have the servo. My email addy is ws6formula89@hotmail.com if you need anymore assistance. I'd be glad to help. Thanks.

Hmm... this might be a good time for me to change my tranny fluid and filter
What does the servo look like? I don't believe I've ever seen the inner workings of a tranny before. Thanks for the help. Also, any recommendations on what tranny fluid to use?
