I need help..... My T-5 is stuck on car!!!!

I have to remove my Borg-Warner T-5 due to a front seal leaking oil, so I removed the torque arm, drive shaft, shifter, speedometer cable, catalytic convertor bracket and backup light wire along with the four tranny-to-bellhousing bolts. I have installed the tranny before, so I just reversed the order. It will only slide out about 1-2 inches then it stops as if it is catching on something. Anyone else had this problem? I worked on it for about 5 hours trying to jiggle, pry, and everything else I could think of. I kinda think the splines on the main shaft are binding badly on the clutch plate splines. Perhaps a burr or something...or am I missing something obvious??? Is my tranny totalled? Any help would be appreciated.

You might try pulling it back as far as it will go, supporting it with a jack, and wedging something like a 2x4 between the front of the trans and the BH; and getting in and pushing on the clutch. If it's hung on the throwout bearing, that might free it.

sounds like its stuck on the input bearing...but if you pry it remember to do it straight and not slide to side.

Thanks for the help everyone. I finally got it out of the car. It was stuck on the pilot bushing, which came out with it. Seems like the front seal wasn't leaking at all. It turns out that the oil was leaking in a VERY small stream from on top of the engine somewhere. My guess is the oil sending unit is leaking maybe. But pulling the tranny out was not in vain because the clutch seemed noisy when released, probably due to the pilot bushing being bad, although it was brand new. The shaft looks a little galled where it was rubbing against the bushing. Guess I'll need to replace it. One more question though...Does the bushing require grease prior to reinstalling the tranny?? It was bone dry when I removed it. Again, thanks.

Which pilot bearing are you using (solid bronze or steel roller bearing style)? I'm using the roller bearing style from GM. Lube it lightly. Be sure to install it with the rounded side out. Good luck, Lon.
