stick trans questions
Hey all. Sorry in advance for this not being all f-body related. I recently picked up a 2wd S-10 Blazer with a bad 5-spd and I want to replace it with an f-body type (so the shifter comes up in a semi-decent spot instead of behind the radio
). The truck has a 4.3L V6 in it now but I plan on swapping in a V8 soon. So my question is, what trans would I be best off with? The trans thats in the truck now is a B/W but not a T-5 (RPO is MM5/MY2 if it helps at all). Thanx TONS for any help or advice on this type of swap- wanna get this done soon!!

The bell housing bolt pattern for the V6 and V8 are different and they are not interchangeable.

The F-car T-5 will not fit, because it has the trans mount pad rotated to make up for the way the trans is installed in the F-car. With a little creative fabrication this might be something that could be overcome. I can tell you, having had both kinds of trans side by side, that your shifter would go from behind the radio to coming up through the middle of the seat. I don't think it would work out right but I could be wrong.
The trans itself has the same bolt pattern in the S truck as the F car; you'd use whatever bell housing you already have, which takes care of the engine being different.
