Loose Hurst

I was wondering what the problem would be. Here is what is happening. I have a t-5 which is shifted by a brand new (installed for only a month now) Hurst Billet Plus shifter. When I first installed the shifter, when you put it in gear, it was very tight. I mean by this that there was no side to side or front to back play. Now after a little over a month, when I have the shifter in gear, the shifter will have about 1.5" of front to back and side to side play. Anyone know what is happening? Is it the transmission? Shifter? Simple little bushing? I am confused and afraid that it will keep getting worse. Please help! I am hoping that it is not the bias springs which self center the shifter because it would be most likely expensive to replace. Anyone know if these Hursts have warranties? Thanks.

Sounds like the bolts that hold it to the trans have backed out, or are stripped...

If they're stripped, Heli-coil them. They're some common metric size, 8mm I think, whatever the "standard" (not fine) pitch is for that size.

Did you replace the plastic bushing the end of the stick fits into? If it's old and brittle, it could disintegrate and give you a lot of play. As for the mounting bolts, the Hurst should have come with longer ones, just like the Ripper does, because the originals will be a bit short and could strip. I can't remember how the front holes are, but the back ones go right through (maybe the threads don't, so you may have to use a tap) and you can use much longer bolts.

The hurst did come with new bolts which I did use when I mounted it to the transmission. I did not replace the little plastic bushing/cup though. I thought that was what the problem was but needed a second opinion. Anyone know where i can get one of these bushings. Dealers here do not seem to have a clue. Thanks for the help all...much appreciated.

The bushing in my car has almost 300,000 miles on it with no perceptible wear the last time I saw it... none of the half-dozen or so used ones I have in stock shows any perceptible wear either.... I doubt that's your problem...

Well, I will have to look and see. I hope the bolt holes are not stripped out. I am going to go look tomorrow afternoon to get a closer look to see the problem. I'll keep you all updated.
