all done with the kit now I just need to put it all back together

well I am POSITIVE that all check ***** are in place where I have diagrams for but I have one left that came down with Valve body that Is larger than the rest and a Small cone filter that also came out {"check link for pic")

can any one help me??? thanks for any help

Governor screen top right of page, 3/8 ball leave out, bottom of page.

The small cone filter is the governor screen, the large ball is the T.V. exhaust which is usually left out, I think later transmissions don't even have one.

I left one out while putting in a trans go kit in an '85 700. The '90 700 I have now has no pin on the tv bracket to unseat the ball and never came with one from the factory (ball or pin).
Anyway that site says you can just leave it out, I would.

There's actually two of those small cone filters. One is in the back for the governor and there's one in the front by the servo.

The large checkball is used as an 'emergency backup' of the tv cable. What I mean is that if the tv cable snapped or something, it would set pressure to max so you would get extremely late and hard shifts, but not damage the trans. If you leave it out and the tv cable snapped you would have soft stacked shifts and would fry the trans in quick order because of the excess slipping. As long as you know this, you could leave the checkball out. It's designed to save the trans from people who don't know better, thats all...

 

The governor filter goes into the hole
that leads directly to the governor. It is stepped to hold the filter in place.

 

hmm that is two differant things now that people have said it's for ...

not to say that you are wrong at all !! , but now I have to wonder ....I dont want to leave it out and then be screwed later if I needed it ...

I also still dont know where that small cone filter goes ....

The one in the back is for the governor feed and the one in the front is for the TCC feed. It won't be the end of the world if it doesn't go back in but I like them as a little insurance against a sticky valve. The Checkball is part of a failsafe system where if the TV cable is missadjusted or it breaks the ball seats and puts the tranny into max pressure/late shifts mode. I usually leave it out.

 

If you guys ever get GM service manuals (from Helm, Inc) or the ATSG service manuals, the valve body pics show you where those filters go. I had one fall out on me when I did my shift kit; man, was I glad I had those books!

I like to use them but honestly allot of gyus don't bother (lazy). It is just there to catch a stray fleck of something that could stick the valve but if it gets past the main filter you might have bigger problems anyhow!
