shift problems

I just happen to test the tranny in 1st gear and what I want to know is the tranny suppose to shift on its own in 1st and then I put it into 2nd and the tranny would not shift it would just rev up but still move the car is there a problem. To me when I have it in 1st and then I shift to 2nd and then 3rd and into OD I should feel all these shifts right.

If your is an auto. like mine it sounds like exactly my problem. Your 2nd gear is gone. That is why it revs up and only moves just a little bit, same with mine in 2nd gear. Actually, when I am taking off, I go through 1st and then it seems to kinda go into neutral through 2nd gear and then all of a sudden it catches up into 3rd gear and is fine from there on. I have diagnosed it as being I have no 2nd gear anymore. Maybe your too?
