While trying to adjust my tv cable, I am not getting any ratcheting and it feels spongy when you pull it all the way out (WOT). I thought that it was supposed to stop positively and not just get tighter and tighter.

 

Are u sure u did it correctly??

I didn't install it. How would I do it correctly?

 

To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal floored, press the D button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.

 

Adjusting doesn't seem to do anything. I believe that there is something not right inside the tranny. What is the cable attached to down there and should it stop positively or just increase tension?

 

Do you mean pulling the cable casing as far as it can go towards the front of the car, or towards the firewall?

Please read above before posting. I am fully aware of the procedure for adjusting the cable. My question is directed to the internals of the tranny!

 

Inside the trans the cable attaches to an arm and pushes a plunger which has a spring behind it, this would explain the spongy feeling it's normal.

At the end of the line is a Throttle Valve inside the VB that just loves to stick. If my procedure doesn't work it is inside.
