Correct shift link(age) lever position on 700R4 ?
I did my filter and fluid change on my stock 88 Formula according to the Haynes manual which outlines placing the vehicle in neutral and unhooking the shift link lever in order to remove the pan for fluid removal.
What I did not do was pay close attention to which click or position the lever was when I unbolted it. I would love to hear what the factory or proper setting this lever should be returned to.
Car runs under its own power at the current setting, but I just want to be sure all is well as Im dealing with a weakness-under-load condition similar to a bad cylinder or bad valve. Constant downshifts due to needing engine power to make up for the 7-cylinder chunk-chug. Yuck.
Thanks in advance..my Chevy dealership knows squat after 10 days.

if your talking about what i think your talking about, then take your lever and go all the way forward (towards the engine) thats park. one back is reverse, 2 back is neutral. is this what your asking?? im kind of confused to your question...

Exactly what Im asking concerns the lever on the side of the tranny pan. I just need to know which click to return this lever to before dropping the car back on the ground. Sounds like you were on the right track..

alright well yeah if your shifter in your car is at neutral, then like i said push it all the way forward then go back 2 clicks. or you can just put your shifter in your car into park and then just push your lever all the way forward and it will also be in park. hope this helps!

Yes it does clear up the main issue, Im guessing just match up the exterior lever with the interior one and Im set? All over the net all night and your the one with the info, super good stuff =)
