Torque conv. changed lockup pattern

Hey guys,
I've got an 84 LG4 camaro w/I suppose a 700r4(?,, I'm not much on automatics). Anyhow, it's not of huge concern (since its still working), just annoyance I guess.

Over the weekend it had a 'slight' antifreeze leak & ran a bit (alot) hot and was driven too. After solving the no antifreeze problem the next day, I noticed the trans. was not locking up in 3rd like it used to the day before (which was very prominant when it did lock). Shifting into 4th, it did as normal (as if it were still cold yet) then the converter locked briefly after shifting. I thought,, well maybe it was still cold (since the temp gauge is now stuck after the incident) and just hit the right temp. I get onto the 'expressway' and shifting back down to 3rd, the converter unlocks, I get to about 60-65 & hold it thinking anytime now you can lock b---h. hit 4th,, locked.

It used to lock in 2nd or 3rd right around 32mph, now it doesn't do squat at any speed untill it's in 4th,, any clue what might cause the change w/nothing being touched??

I run B&M trick shift (changed about 10k ago), the level is fine & the fluid doesn't seem to have a cooked smell to it either.

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated,, I miss my 3rd gear lockup (and mild mpg advantage it gave,, my LG4 needs all the help it can get )

Thanks

I guess if you guys don't have any ideas that must mean I'm s.o.l. (since I haven't a clue)?

Sorry to hear about the Trick Shift.

As for your problem, I would recheck my coolant level as it sounds like you may have an air pocket and the temp sensor for the ECM isn't getting the right signal.

Thanks for the reply transfixleo

I've rechecked the coolant level & every 'appears' to be in working condition. The temp sensor is on the thermo housing and I have robert shaw thermostat.

I thought the PROM was programmed for a certain lock the converter at a particular throttle/speed (or am I just stupid about that)? Would something cooked in the trans. affect how the converter locks regardless of the ECM telling it to? It just seems wierd that the converter will only lock in 4th only now w/o a thing having been touched. Doesn't the ECM just see a go/no go for locking the converter when it sees XX° temp from the sensor?

*edit to the original message,,, I meant to say I use B&M trick shift fluid, sorry fot the confusion.

The guy I bought it from did however claim it has a mild sift kit in it (which it does feel alot more solid shifting than the 86 caprice my mom had)
