slipping problem

ive just put in an engine and box in my car, its a 700r4, when it warms up the gears slip a little, but not if u go up a hill, its strange its different on different slopes, its like its not getting enough fluid, fluid is clean and full.
could i have put the radiator cooler pipes on the wrong way round, causing it to not get enough fluid????

Re: slipping problem

Hmm... sounds like its not getting enough oil pressure moving around in the tranny. could be a numerous of things. have u checked ur detent cable to see if it needs adjusted? or have u adjusted it already to see if it made a difference that is one of the many components that shifts with the pressure if not correctly adjusted it could lead to problems.

Re: slipping problem

its a new tv cable, seems to shift in all gears alright, i think i may have put the cooler pipes to the radiator the wrong way round, which way should they go, top pipe on box to top fitting on radiator?

Re: slipping problem

ok looked it over today, cooler pipes are right, i took the oil pan off and the filter came off with it, looks like the filter had come off and was sitting in the pan, so i put a new one in and new fluid but not tested it yet coz the weathers so bad

does it sound like the filter could be the problem?

Re: slipping problem

Could be. The filter is the feed for the pump, so if it can't suck fluid the pump doesn't get fluid unless it happens that the pump inlet is submerged in tranny fluid that's in the pan. Post back and let us know if it fixed the problem.

Re: slipping problem

it seemed ok then 3rd started slipping a bit now its going to 5thousand revs before it struggles to change to second, hard to get in to 4th as well, i think the transmission must be a bit tired then?
