couple of Q's

My pinion bering is real noisy so I am going to have it done at a shop. Would that be the right time to change gears? I have 3.70 right now and I am looking to do either 3.30? or 3.42 I don't like pushing my little 5.0 to hold high RPM's on the highway for several hours at a time. Which would be best for all around street driving without killing my acceleration? Also how can I tell how many splines are on the axle with the rear in the car? There is only one tag on the rear that says it is Lim Slip. and no #'s anywhere I cleaned the whole thing off. I know I don't need to know that for the work I am getting done but it would be nice to know for the future

The 3.42's are a perfect all around gear. Crusing they want work the engine to hard, they get out of the hole pretty good and don't kill your top end speed. In my opion it's a great gear for a car that sees mainly street duty.
