HOW THE FU*% DO I DO THIS!! G()[) [)@M/\/ PIECE OF $#!+... HI IROCKID

K guys. I have been without my car for too long. I blew the tranny in my WS6 84 T/a in Feb and got a replacement from IROCKID in April I still don't have my car!!! I got everything in except for the dipstick tube! and on top of that it sounds as if something is grinding in the front of the tranny. There are some engine probs to but I can get over that for now.

:IMPORTANT:
I love my car so someone, anyone help me before I push (or tow) it to a field and shoot bottle rockets at the open gas tank.

You have a question, or just venting? It's not installed yet and you have a grinding noise in the front of the tranny? You want a p/n for a dipstick?

It's a little of both actually.

I did install the tranny, and I have the tube. I just can't figure out how to get the tube in the tranny. I tried it with the tranny in but it's like a inch out. I even tried dropping the trany back out but then the tube dosen't fit back into place at all. I'm just soo miffed. What do it have to do!

As for the grinding noise... I started the car... just to keep it from sitting, and with the tranny in there is a grinding noise. I'm not sure of what it is. It dosen't sound like metal on metal. More like it's the inspection cover and the flywheel. Won't know till I start it with the cover off I guess. But if it is... How is it possible if it's all in the right place?

That wouldn't have anything to do with your tone and attitude, would it?

I couldn't install my tranny with the dipstick installed, either. You have to put the grommet (seal) into the case, but leave the dipstick tube out. Install the tube from above, or from below, but somehow hang it near where it ultimately belongs. Once the tranny's in (except for the one bolt that also anchors the DS tube), you can simply slide the tube down into place. The hard part's getting that last bolt in because the tube's anchor doesn't always want to line up properly (i.e. moderate force may be required ).

I have had much calmer posts but they never seemed to grab any attention untill i begged. I really miss my car - Haven't had it since mid Feb. I just wanna get her road worthy up until the engine swap.

Uhh, I'm not too worried about the mount bolt I just want it in. I have tried pushing but it seems to bind up around the AIR pipe. I just can't seem to move it over about an inch.

I just dropped my tranny and remember that the dipstick tube snakes down inboard of the air tube. It helps if you jack the car up real high and tilt the engine backwards.

you sshould worry about thhe mounting bolt cause the pressure inside that tranny will pop the tube right out of the rommet causing it to leak burning out your pump.install the grommet in the dipstick hole(tie off the dipsttick to the air tube) put the tranny in once a few boltts are in to secure the tranny slide the dipstick tube in you might have to use a long 3/8 extension and big enough socket to fit over the top of the tube and very very very did mention very lightly tap the tube into the orifice if you tap to hard you'll break the grommet and gasket causing you to use a lot of explitives towards your car and possibly yourself take your time.....

Make sure you're not trying to force an "old-and-stuck-on-the-dipstick-tube" dipstick grommet into a "new-on-the-trans" dipstick grommet, or vice-versa... one grommet only!

also...
that noise from your tranny on idle (700R-4?) comes from its internal oil pump and is normal according to gm, i've read about somewhere cause i've had it too, nothing to worry about, just fix your tube and go have fun. (i think i read that on superchevy or something)
fernando.

when u try to install the tube, make sure u put gease on the end that goes into the grommet. It will ease inatallation. It also lessens the chance of just pushing the grommet through and into the trans pan. Can u tell i work in a trans shop? If u have any other probs, mail me, just make sure u put a subject on the e-mail

Man the dipstick was the easy part for me, it was just the coolant lines that made me rant like this guy.
