I have a 1985 camaro z28 with a stock 305 with a 700r4 transmission. when i get to about 35 40mph it wont shift in drive. I dropped the trans pan and changed the filter; no shavings, maybetwo or three very small ones. fluid is nice and red. Tried to adjust the tv cable for pressure still same thing. I bought some of that lucas trans fix and after 2nd time testing it out, it seemed only slightly better; I dont what else to do. Do I need a new trans? Also shifting Hard, After the lucas not so bad..... Need help!!

 

When it does shift, is it at high RPM's? When you dropped the pan, did you find small pieces of plastic? If so the governor gear may have come apart, or sheared off. There is a round cover on the left (driver) side of the trans. Pry it off and pull out the governor, look at the gear. They're cheap.

 

already looked at the gov gear its good. what else could it be? I saw no plastic or anything in the pan...
