I Finally got my speedometer hooked up so now I have a VSS. Anyway, everything works fine and dandy EXCEPT....
when I'm at WOT, after it shifts it locks up the TC and bogs the engine down. why the hell does the tc lock up at wot????

That would work. If you have it wired stock there may be a wire in the wrong pin of the trans, they came in several different configurations or it may be the manifold vacuum switch that controls the converter,I'm not sure if your '88 would have one, my '84 did.
You may want to contact pro built, my 700 does the same thing as yours because I have a hot wire going into the trans to the fourth gear switch, when it hits fourth it locks up and stays locked until it down shifts out and into third, I also have it on a switch to turn it off, I usually drive with it off.
