700r4 valving ?s

I was wondering if you push on it with your finger is is supposed to only spring back halfway? does it use fluid pressure to do the rest instead of a spring?
Also I have a junked 89 700 that I took out, and it has that aux valve body and it looks like it would fit in my 85 i have installed, what exactly does it do?
are there any simple shift modifiers I can do while in the valve body, i'm not afraid of taking it apart, i've got a spare...

The Throttle Valve Plunger usually comes back most if not all of the way. The Throttle Valve itseldf may be stuck in the full apply position, limiting some of the travel. Remember that when you start the engine, oil pressure will be pushing these valves outward.

As to changing an '89 VB into a '85, sorry, no can do. The '89 is an Aux, type VB and has different channels that go with the seperator plate and case.

For modifications the BEST thing you can do is install a TransGo Shift Kit or Reprogramming Kit.

Hmmm, so how many parts are there in the tv valve assembly? I took out the lever, the plunger and the plunger housing and the spring and got it all cleaned up, is there anything else farther in there??
Sorry for all the ? but this is facinating stuff really.

There's also the tv valve itself (all the way in the back) and a small conical kicker spring. If the tv valve doesn't slide right out of the valve body, chuck it on a drill and run it over green scotchbrite until it does. They have a nasty tendency to stick in there causing all kinds of shift probs.

Also if you have a grinder handy, theres a small tit on the end of the tv valve where the conical spring goes, take the spring off and grind it flush. Put the spring back on...

Never use scotchbrite or any other kind of sandpaper on valves to get rid of high spots. There are two ways, one, have valve in bore and hit the valve lightly in open areas with flat edge screwdriver to eliminate high spots. Two, take out the valve and use a file to get rid of high spots on valve, if you use sandpaper (stay away from the edge of the valve), the edge of the valve must be sharp to move any grit/metal/dirt out of the way. If you sand the edge of the valve it will have a round edge, and possibly get stuck in the bore at no time at all.

I agree about not 'pollishing' the valve. If you install the TransGo kit it comes with a NEW, redesigned valve that won't stick.
