Alum. Driveshaft Questions
1. Will the aluminum driveshaft from a 4th gen bolt right in?
2. How much should I expect to pay?
3. What kind of performance will I gain/is it worth the money?
Thanks for your help

85,
1) The thirdgen shaft, 88-92, will bolt up to a fourthgen car through 97, so I would assume the reverse is true. Pre-88 cars will require a different rear U-joint. I can provide you with the part # if you need it. 2) Should you be able to locate one in a yard, you'll do much better than in the classified (I frequently sell thirdgen shafts for $160 shipped). 3) Check the FAQs on this site for more info. Personally, and others may disagree, I feel that my 85 IROC is not only quicker because of the alum shaft but also silk smooth at high speeds. I wouldn't consider steel again. Worth the money? It was for me.

Thanks JamesC for your help,
Since my car is an '85 I guess I need that rear U-joint part #
Thanks again
P.S. Did you install the driveshaft yourself or get it done at a garage?

I'm away from my home computer, so I'll shoot you the part number later today. You can do the install yourself without difficulty.

85,
My experience is with the 1LE shaft, so I can't confirm that the following part # will allow you to bolt up a LS1--I suggest that you measure in advance. CarQuest 3-3130 allowed an easy bolt in to my 85.
