Got a simple question (I hope)

I am new to this board and new to the F Body scene so bare with me :-)

I recently bought a 1987 Camaro IROC-Z and first I have to say this car kicks A$$!! Its in great shape and the engine pulls good but I have a nagging quesiton..

In the morning I will start her up and let it warm up. Then when I put it in reverse she hesitates for a second and jerks into gear. The upshifts does the same for the first couple of miles of driving. After the first couple of miles and evrything is warmed up good she shifts smooth and engages into reverse smoothly without the jerky clunk.

I am not sure how the car was treated before me ( I can only imagine the worst as these cars can take the punishment so I am told). But is this something to worry about? Is it a sign of bad things to come or would a little general maintenace and TLC fix this up?

PS: This board ROCs!!

Stan

welcome to thirdgen.org. i'm not expert but i pretend to be on here, first thing i'd check is the fluid level and if it's good change it and the filter.

Welcome aboard,
You came to the right place for help,
Definately change the fluid, most people ( that don't care about there cars or don't have the know how) don't change the tranny fluid, they remember oil changes but not the tranny. Invest in a good tranny cooler as well this will add life to the tranny.

Glad ot be on the board... :-)

Well I did check the level and it looks good, hummm I should be checking that when the engine is hot and its in park right?? DOHH!! hehe, I will do that tomorrow morning...the fluid is the proper redish/pink color as well...I may as well do a tranny flush on her I guess. Can't hurt.

Thanks for the reply. If anyone has any other ideas of what it can be let me know

To get a proper reading, the car has to be running then run through the gears, R P D, then Park and check your level.
