PLEASE I NEED HELP WITH MY TRANNY ASAP!!!

Ok... I THINK it's my tranny but I dunno but I really need help. I have a 1991 Camaro RS Auto Transmission... Ok to school this mornin and to work after school it drove fine like it always does. When I came home from work this afternoon I wasn't getting as much power as I usually do... so I pushed the gas and my car just revs up really loud goin down the interstate. The RPM's were goin almost all the way up. It seemed 2 me like it wasn't switching gears or something. I took it out around my neighborhood about 5 minutes ago and it did the same thing. It sux cuz I can't go fast on the highway or anything cuz it won't speed up much at all. I was goin like 45 on the interstate and my car sounded horrible. I know my tranny mount is broken and is about to be fixed but I haven't had time yet. I'm getting it done asap. Does anyone have any ideas on what happened to my car and what I should do? I can't be showin up to school in my dad's 88 Ford Red "Power Ranger" I'd be emBARRASSed. And I'm not drivin my mom's van so please for the love of *** help me! Thanks In Advance!

Does it by any chance take off OK, then shift into 2nd OK but after that it just kind of revs? If so then your 3-4's are gone. Common problem.

Since nobody with concrete knowledge is answering I'll give it a shot. I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but I believe this requires a rebuild. The exact same thing happened to me and I just found a cheap parts car and swapped its tranny in. I'm not sure about this but I don't hink replacing a 3-4 Clutch pack is that expensive (does require you to remove tranny though. Wait for some more experienced people like transfixleo to let you know for sure.

Be carefull about swapping trannies as they all look the same but can be calibrated quite differently.

What to do? It is time for an O/H. I would suggest a TransGo Reprogramming Kit, installing the Hi Rev Release Springs that come with it. Also get the TransGo Hi Rev Pump Ring Kit. I would make a couple of changes to the tranny: Install the 4L60E 3-4 pack and sprag assembly. The 3-4 pack is designed for a different drum so it will have to be adapted to it but it is the hot setup, IMHO. How much? I tried to get people to answer a question in another post on another board but it seems people are all of a sudden 'busy'. I will try again here:

If someone you trust just rebuilt and installed a tranny to your specs, put the oil in but hadn't started it yet, How much would you charge to assume responsibility (warranty) the tranny for 12 months/12 thousand miles? This would include what it would cost to tow the car, replace parts, oil, etc, if anything should go wrong in that time period (possibly more than once).

I am dead serious about this question and am not trying to put anyone on the spot. It is a real eye opener because often people will come up with a price HIGHER than what they normally say is 'too much' for an O/H! You would then take this price and add it to the cost of parts and labor to do the O/H for the price of an O/H. I hope I get a lot of responses to this question!

ok... today i didnt' drive to school and my mom took it to a guy we know that works on cars... she said she couldn't get it up over 35 on the way... then he got in it... and manually shifted **even tho it's an auto** he put it in 1st... then 2nd... then drive then overdrive... and it did fine. he shut it off... and did it again cept this time just started it in od and it ran fine. I drove it to work for a 20 minute drive and it ran fine. On the way home... it messed upa gain. I manually shifted it once and it worked fine. Then it messed up again. Then when it switched from like 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd I can't remember, it made this bad sound like a vibrating sound like it wasn't changing... then i felt it change. My dad is gonna be mad when he gets home from offshore... specially when he finds out how much it's gonna cost...
