i took out my rear end because im doing a complete restoration of my car and noticed it is a 9 bolt when i thought it was a 10 bolt. any specs on this rear?

Now for the bad news. If you have the GM nine bolt Borg Warner BTR 78 7.75 inch ring gear that came in the IROC and GTA you are SOL amigo. No one in the world not Australia, or Japan or England or New Zealand or Canada or anywhere makes a Helical gear LSD for that @$#@#$ rear end which I myself have. You can get the Borg Warner made stock cone type maybe somewhere, or an expensive German made clutch disc type ( More than a currie 9 inch with a truetrac expensive I kid you not.) LSD for it and a Aussie Ford bit that might work for like $800 bucks US other than that no joy. I'm gonna toss mine and get a Ford 9 inch for it probably from Currie. Moser and Strange among others have other options for you. You could salvage a 10 inch from a lesser vehicle and get a Truetrac for it, and save some cash, a good choice would be a 4 th gen V8 10 bolt with the good discs on it.

since i dont plan on having the car on the road within the next few years im gonna get a mosher 9 inch but was wondering what i should try and get for this one. the gears are very good in it still from what i could see.

 

I've seen them sold for $200-$300....I've seen people have to GIVE them away.

I guess it depends on the area & if anybody is wanting one.

 

also thought about cutting off all brackets and getting a bigger rear end out of an older car and cutting the shafts to length but probably better to sell it and put it towards a currie or mosher

Nope didn't happen they did make one for the GTO that is almost $900 bucks and didn't make one that fits the BTR 78 we have. Been there done that one already. Honestly been to Aussie sites and everywhere looked for days on the internet there is nothing anywhere except what it has already and a High dollar German clutch type LSD that was 1500 something Euro which is like 2 grand US. Your options are swap or rebuild. I'm thinking swap for a late model truck 10 bolt with the 8.5 ring gear and getting a Truetrac for that.

 

I've been searching around for a cheaper option than the one I've found for the Truetrac in the BW m78 diff. It appears I'm not going to find any as it looks like you guys have exhausted all avenues over there.

Here in Australia there is a company called Harrop Engineering and they do the Truetrac for the M78. The price is $1540 Aussie, which would be quite expensive for you guys with the way the $ is at the moment. here's the link...

You are correct, Eaton don't make them to suit. Herrod Engineering modifies them to suit our Aussie cars, so you won't get them directly from Eaton. If you can find out which centre they start with, then take it to an Engineering shop with a standard centre, you may be able to get them to modify it for you. I'm sure the potential would be there for them to do a lot of these if they were to work it out. I'd imagine they'd use a 7.5" centre and modify the mounting flange. Any engineers on the forum?
