No 4th gear...already tried a search.

I have a 86 IROC I recently aquired. I have changed the filter and fluid, and realised I do not have 3rd gear after taking it out on the highway for the 1st time today. I tried adjusting the TV cable per ALLDATA instructions, but my TV cable never "clicked" when I opened to WOT. Not sure if that is my problem or not. When I dropped the pan, there was NO large chunks of metal on the magnet, fluid looked normal to what I would expect on a car so old. 1-2-3 and OD all work fine. NO slippage noticed under WOT, etc. Ideas please??? I can fix an engine, but when it comes to transmissions, I don't know a whole lot. lol. Thanks guys.

It's been a long day guys, sorry I meant i have no 4th gear while on the highway. at least i think....my rear end is a 3.23 and i went up as high as 90 and it seemed like i was tached out too high, and could feel the resistance in the gears when i let off the gas..this doesnt feel right. remember, it does have OD, never slips, has 1-2-3 that feel all normal.

The method of setting the TV by flooring the go pedal has never worked well for me, I do it underhood, by hand, so that the cable itself is tight with the throttle wide open. Next, your stock trans will not do a full-throttle 3-4 upshift without buying a kit from B&M. If you have your TV set correctly, and the correct amount of fluid, and still have [roblems, start saving your $ for another trans.

hmmm...so what you are saying is that I may actually have 4th it just doesnt stay in it when i get back on the gas some to try and go faster? I'm wondering if I am just smoking rocks. I adjusted the tv cable under the hood again this morning, this time, it clicked twice when i oped the throttle to stop. I think it's actually ok. I will find out once I figure out what the RPM's actually are in each gear once I get the gauges fixed!! Tach is stuck up high, fuel gague is erratic, as well as oil pressure, and the temp gauge is pegged out beyond max.
