It's pretty much a waste of time to fool around with those codes, especially when stuff has been swapped around; nobody goes and finds the right sticker to stick on there when they do stuff like that. Just open it up and look.

Have you changed the rear end fluid lately? Then you need to pop the cover off anyway.

According to my lists, there were no A3 V8 cars in 83. The 200C was only offered in 82 for V8 cars. V6 and I4 cars were still able to have it in 83. There are no V6 Z28 cars.

If the car is actually an 82 then a Z28 4bbl car and an A3 came with 2.73 gears. If it's fuel injected then it had 2.93 gears or if it had the G92 option it came with 3.23 gear.

If the car is a V6 83 then they only had the option of 3.08 gears with an A3

If the diff isn't original then pull the cover, count the teeth and change the gear oil.

i know , it's strange 'cause my my car is an 83 camaro z28 (i've checked the vin code)but i think that the trasmission and the rear axle are from another camaro, or maybe is one of hte first 83 camaro .
If you look on page 188 ( haynes manual),under trasmission type:

1982 200c
1983 200c;700 r-4
1984 700 r-4

WHAT YOU THINK?
