Help quick, A GREAT DEAL ON A 3:73
Hey guys, check it out. My rear end is about to blow, it clanks and clunks, the spider has alot of slop. There is a rebuilt 3:73 POSI rear end for 200 bucks. Its from a 1981 camaro.
I have a 1987 trans am with 3:73 limited slip, what modifications are necassary for installing this earlier rear end. Thanks, Josh

brakes dont matter, its a totally different rear, the gears are different sizes. you cant use it, move on.

are you kidding me, what do the gear sizes have anything to do with the adaptation. The only thing that matters is the mounting locations and if it will adapt to my current drive shaft and spring locations.

the 81 camaro rear is setup for leaf springs, you car has coil springs. Not the biggest deal, but the major issue is the torque arm. There is practacially no way to install a torque arm mount on the 81 axle.
You would have to swap all the brackets, control arm mounts, spring perches, panhard mount to the other axle as well.
Im sure the width of the 2 rears are different as well.
The only way you could use it would be to install ladderbars or sometihng like that, and thats requires a lot of fabrication and $$$, which is not worth the time or $$$ on that particualr rear.
