TH400 kick down switch....special switch?
TH400 kick down switch....special switch?
could I use let's say a nitrous switch instead, or does the Kick down switch a special switch in any ways?
Also, I've done a search on the subject but it didn't help me understand how it works...what stops the trany to downshift and make you fly throu the red line?
thanks

No it's a quite ordinary switch. It used to mount in most cars on the gas pedal bracket inside the car; it just sent 12V from the ignition circuit to the kickdown solenoid, which is a fairly low-current device. It uses a vacuum modulator to control the shift points, so it directly looks at engine load; much more accurate than a stupid throttle position cable.

now what about if you run a big cam with low vaccum...? I think I have an adjustable vacum module...but is it all I need?
So I can built in ANY kind of switch to activat the selenoid, don't need to spend 50$ for one in Summit right? just a 2$ switch mounted on the pedal or carb...or maybe shifter?
Thanks
