Do I need an LT1 starter when swapping to T56 ???

Do I need an LT1 starter when swapping to T56 ???

Do I need an LT1 starter when swapping to T56 from a T5? Will the LT1 strarter just bolt up to our engines?

As far as I know you do not, if you have an auto you have to modify a cover or something on the trannie beacuse the starter is larger in size and it wont fit correctly, but other than that I'm pretty positive you don't need a new starter especially since your a manual already..

If you want to reuse the old style starter, you'll have to do a little bit of grinding on the bellhousing to allow the nose of the starter to fit. I went ahead and got the LT1 starter from the car I got the transmission out of. It's smaller (weighs a lot less) and I think it has a higher torque output than the standard starter.

Keep in mind that I had an automatic before I did the swap. I'm not sure if the starters are different or not.

Axle/Gears: 12-Bolt 3.73
Manual and automatic starters are different, the automatic one is larger, so it wont fit. You need a starter for a manual car.
