Tremec TKO 500 in '87 IROC-Z
Based on some helpful information from a fellow thirdgen member ive decided against my original transmission choice. Instead im looking for at spending some money and putting in a tremec tko 500. I know im going to need a bigger yoke and some driveshaft modifications, maybe some crossmember mods as well. What other issues am I going to run in to? My main concern is where the shifter will end up... Im really hoping its not going to be moved forward or back... Anyone have some first or second hand experience with tko500s in a 3rd gen??? I really don't want to have to modify the console. Motor is a 406 sbc.
Thanks for your help.

search around a little, this has benn covered many times.
you need a ford c6 yoke, with the u-joint to match your shaft
the crossmember needs to be modified, or buy an aftermarket crossmember. Forte's parts connections sells adapters for the stock crossmember, as well as almost everything else you will need.
the shifter will be 2" further forward, about under the ashtry. You need a set back shifter, or a stick to set the handle back.
you will have to do some wiring, nothing major.
the trans needs an adapter plate to bolt to the stock bellhousing.
forget the tko500 and get the tko600, it has better gear ratios, its stronger, and costs the same.
thats the major stuff
