new t-5 tranny?
There is a chance I may need a new T-5 tranny, after I blew mine up :-(
How much should these things cost if a shop dropped it in (parts, labor, whatever)?
I know I will get lots of suggestions for a 6 speed but I don't have any time to search for one, drop it in, etc.... yet
Thanks a lot in advance guys!

You can get a new T5 through Hanlon Motorsports or D&D Performance (I think that's what D&D is called).
probably around $1100 give or take plus shipping.
Somebody's gonna rip you a new one to install it if you can't do it yourself.
You've also gotta remember related parts (if necessary) like clutch kit, u-joints, etc.

1983 Z28, NO T-tops, (unfortunately) Auto Transmission (hopefully not for long)

I'd buy something better. If you broke this one you'll probably break another. Try:

There is a retro fit t-56 here for $1950

I just bought a TKO to put in my Nova, and that with, crossmember, pro-5.0 shifter, and mechanical speedo provisions cost about $2500 , but I can put 525 ft-lbs of torque through that bad boy.

Rebuilt WC T5 in Nor-Cal is $1200-1400.
.....and still very weak!If it's at all possible, I'd really consider a Tremec or other aftermarket trans. The 450 ft/lb Tremec is only a little over $1400 and doesn't require too many changes, and the TKO is only a few hundred more.I know it seems like a big lump of money, but you'd be way better off in the long run.
I had my WC T5 rebuilt at about 80k,after 2nd gear went away, since I didn't have a lot to spend at the time, but it still ended up costing me about $350 more than I planned on spending and now that I've got a 350 in front of it, I know I'll have to replace it in the spring.Should've replaced it then!
Anyway, maybe you can benefit from my mistake and bite the bullet....buy a better trans.
My grandfather always said, "you can do it right......or you can do it over!"
my 2 cents..
