kick down cable problem

kick down cable problem
i just bought a 88 iroc with a bad tranny the guy i bought it off of gave me a good trans with the car same trans that was in the car (700) put it in trans is fine the problem im having is transfluid is leaking from ware the kickdown cable goes into the trans i pulld the cable out and the seal is tore up called a bunch of autopart stores and half of them dont even know what a kickdown cable is the other half say they dont have it cant get it (cable or seal) i tried a bunch of different sized orings and it still leaks it seems the plastic boot isnt sitting flush on the trans the far end from the hold down bolt seems to be lifted up a little when i tightn the bolt when i just place the plastic boot in the trans has anyone delt with a problem like this and what did you do to fix it

Most auto parts store refer to the "kickdown cable" as a detent cable. You still probably wouldn't be able to get the seal without buying the whole cable. If you have a Daaco transmission parts store nearby they could probably help you. Otherwise I'd hit up the local junkyard. Good luck!

Probably one of the main reasons the parts-iliterate counter guys can't find it is because it's not a kick down cable. It's a TV cable, also known as a detent cable. It does not control downshifts, but rather controls the line pressure inside the trans, thus varying the shifts points by varying the perssure the governor "sees".
There are two types of cables and two types of seals. One uses a flat/square o-ring, the other uses a boot/grommet type seal, similiar to the trans dipstck seal. My guess is you're trying to use the o-ring type seal on a cable/trans that was designed for the grommet. - You'll probably need to go directly to a transimission shop to find one local.
If you get a complete new cable(not a bad idea, and shouldn't be very expensive) I wouldn't get anything other than an OE cable or an ATP cable. The cheapys are junk.

ahh thanks guys you were right about trying to use the worng seal i got the boot type and the leak stopped right away but now i am able to see i have another leak comming from the front seal lol

If you're talking about the dipstick tube seal they DO sell those at all the auto parts stores in the "Help!" section. I just picked one up a couple weeks ago.
