Launching effects...

Hey all, this question is for both auto and manual owners. You all know launching techniques like "dropping the clutch"(manual) and "the neutral drop"(auto). Where for the manual you hold down clutch, while flooring the gas pedal until desired rpm (say 7000) then drop the clutch and go. And for auto, putting it in neutral, flooring the gas until desired rpm (say 7000) then drop the stick to D and go. Now my question, which "drop" has a worse affect on its transmission?

the auto hands down, doing the "death drop" will blow a auto in no time, dumping the clutch on a manual really doesnt do anything except mabey wear your clutch out a little faster, thats why auto's use a trans brake if they want to wind out and launch

Dumping the clutch at that high of rpms is relativly bad on stock clutches. Had that problem in 94 ranger when I was 16, literally found chunks of the clutch when trans went.

It is hard on standards/clutches/drivelines to do that and it will kill an auto. At 7000 RPM you better have a scatter shield and blanket on there. Ever hear of Don Garlits?

LOL, guys I was just saying 7000 rpm for argument sake, I've heard other people do it. I was just using the number 7000 as the highest rpm, to see the worst that could happen, and which tranny would get killed first. If 7000 is too high a number, how bout 4000.

Doing neutral drops is insane, there is NOTHING to be gained and everything to lose. Broken parts can be: input shaft, input drum, output shaft, sunshell, etc. Burnt forward clutches in about one or two tries if you don't break anything.

How about a video game instead? It will save you allot of money and embaresment in the long run.

"I've heard other people do it"

Just out of curiousity, how old are you?

By 'it' you must mean feel the need to completely destroy their transmission, right?
