why will it not fit
im haveing so any probles putting in my new trans i got an 86 700 r4 but the converter i have is out of an 83 their the same shaft size and spline [i counted} but the torque converter will go on but i cant get the 2 notches to slide on to the piece on the shaft so its like half in i litterly sat under my car 4 an hour trying to get them to come together but i just cant seem to do it any suggestions

I think you counted the wrong shaft. The outer one will be the same but the inner one is different. If you look I think you will see that the '86 Input Shaft (the inner one) looks fatter (30 Tooth) than the '83 (27 Tooth). Good thing you weren't going the other way though, the converter would have gone in and not worked!
