rear end opinion

i currently have a 92 rs with a 350 tbi 700r4 trans and a 2.73 ratio one legger in the rear it runs great.i also have a 3.42 rear with disk breaks and a 373 rear drum.i am asking does anyone think i should switch the rear or leave it alone? and if so witch one would be beter to use for a daily driver but still have some *** but not kill the gas

The 3.42 would work very well if you drive it on the highway. If you only drive in town then the 3.73 would be good. The disc brakes are an upgrade in most people's opinion.

my highway speed limit here is 65 my daily drive to work is 55.my playing speed is what ever i can get it to with out getting cought l.o.l i only hit the highway once in awhile you think the 3.42 would be best?

If I had my choice of the 3 rear ends mentioned I would go with the 3.42.

Yes, your speedometer will be off. There is a sticky on this sight that can help you with the speeometer gears.

are all 3.42 9 bolt rears with the disk breaks posi? or high perf?

This is a 9 bolt? I assumed that when you said 3.42 that you were talking about a 10 bolt. I've only seen one 9 bolt that was not posi. I think that the 9 bolt gear was a 3.45, and that was rare. Most were 2.77 or 3.27.

this rear came out of a 89 firebird gta it is 9 bolt disk break tag on rear cover says 3.42 just checked it on the way to work this morning forgot to spin hubs to check if its posi rpo codes for car came up 3.42 dont remember if it said posi though it was about 7 years ago when i ran the codes.can a locker be put in this rear?and if so any recomendations.like i said i would like to keep it street driveable (cant stand 1 wheel peel) also have another rear that i will be removing tomarow i'll let you know what that is and maybe i can come to a decision thanks again

I don't know of any locker for the 9 bolt. There is an after market differential for this rear end, but I'm told that it is very expensive. The origianl Borg Warner differential can be reconditioned if it isn't working correctly.
