ok, here's the deal. My 350 is at the machine shop right now, and is in the process of becoming a 383. What I need to know is what to do with the tranny. The mechanic building the engine for me said I am looking at a HP rating of around 425. I already bought a TCI "saturday night special" tourque converted and the TCI "valve body Improver kit"..... I am having a pretty agressive cam put in with roller rockers and it already has full 3 inch exhaust with the SLP headers. It has 3.73's in the rear and a hypertech chip (which will be replaced for a custom burned one). Basically what I need to know is what should I do to the tranny. . the converter is listed "around 600" above stock, with higher lock speeds depending on engine mods. . so will it lock high enough for me? or should I go with a higher stall one? also, should I keep the TCI valve body kit, or go with a better one from trans go? are the pressure boosters and the corvette servos going to be worth it? I am looking for the car to be a weekend warrior, yet still retain driveability. I don't really care how firm my shifts are, and breaking the 1-2 loose every now and then wouldn't be so bad :-). Basically I am just looking for a good tranny set-up that will suit my application. any feedback will help alot. Thanx guys :-)

 

What's the specs on that camshaft? A Hyd Roller that will make 425 hp in a 383, should be mild enough to pull strong from 2500rpm. which is right around where your converter will stall at. If not select another cam. They are all the same price and converters over 2800 stall get real expensive. Look for a cam with lots of lift .500"+ and duration @.050" of not more than 230 deg on the intake. and ground on 110+ LSA Install it slightly advanced. as per the cam card. TPI motors don't need a very big duration cam to work. The trans sounds fine. Anything with a real bang shift
will shorten the life of the trans and attract the man....
