The mother of all rear ends.
Hey guys, I finally received my rear end after weeks and weeks of wait. Its a Midwest Chassis unit. Ford 9" Aluminum third member, 31 splines, true trac, 4.11, Ford Torinon big bearing flanges to allow C6Z brakes and a functionnal E-brake. I got the brake bracket kit from Kore3.
This thing is a piece of art, it comes with the adjustable torque arm and a tranny crossmember similar to the BMR trak pak unit. I still have to fit it under the car and weld it but the rear is in. It even has built on housing LCA relocators.
Im almost done modifying the coil spring mounts to install my rear air bags.
Ill let the pics to the rest of the talking. More pics on page 7 of my cardomain.

As far as costs go, those rear starts @ 2600$. Then you add, powdercoating, aluminum third member, backbrace... It got me to 3400$ including torque arm and the crossmember shipped.
I think its a great deal consider what youre getting. Adjustable torque arms arms are about 350-450$ and Im not even talking of the crossbar. That being said, its still a lot of money, but Id rather pay the price, but pay it once and be done with it.
The unit is 100% bolt on (yeah yeah I know) and fits with every oem or performance pieces.

I always wondered with these trick aftermarket rear ends... what do you do about brake lines? Just roll your own? And what about where the junction block bolts to the rear end? What do you do about that? just hang it somewhere and plug the hole the mounting bolt used to go to? Or do they usually have a mounting pad as part of marketing them to our cars?

I see the line from the chassis to the rear already on the rear, its mounted to one of the studs for the diff. Some sort of L bracket I'd imagine. Then he's on his own from there to the flex lines on the calipers it looks like.

Any shots of the other end of the torque arm? Would like to see how different it is from a Fab9 setup which comes with trans crossmember.

You're right, Ill have to build hardlines from the T fitting to the braided lines mounted on the calipers.

I believe going with the fabricated 9" housing is the way to go. Im sure a majority of people would think the same thing. I just don't like how the stock 9"s have that rounded housing, just not that cosmetically pleasing.

That piece is a thing of beauty and I have to concur with a previous comment on here; you spent more on that rear than I spent on my whole car. but you may as well do it right the first time....

but only 31spline axels? whyyyyyyyy i woulda went at least 33 spline... that rear is fabricated and built to handle wayyy more than the 31 spline axels can withstand.
all in all nice rear... but for that price id go with the moser fabricated M9 housing!

So this rear end looks like moser's M9 for the fBody. Any way my question is does have the same type torque arm. When you installed it did it have a sliding type front link that hooks to the transmission cross member?

Seems a little lame that they can build all that, but not supply the 2 tubes for the brakes. If somebody is spending $2600+ on an axle, they won't be wanting to reuse their stock brake lines & not everybody has the tools needed to bend & flare their own brake tubes.

I think its safe to say that somebody dropping that kind of coin on a rear will have the tools, or other means to deal with the brake lines. seriously, flaring tools cost under 20bux.

I bought the Eastwood 1 action flaring tool. I had to build new lines for the entire car anyways. and like 86TA said, theres tons of brake application when you go with those custom rear ends. So youre just better off bending your own lines, everyone can do a better job then off the shelf lines. I made mine to really hug the housing and not be noticeable when looking out the back.

That thing is a beauty, great components cost great amounts of money. But figuring you got close to a 1000 dollars worth of suspension components its not too bad!

i refuse to buy prebent lines, i always make my own lines. I even use the 19$ flaring tool kit from harbor frieght lol. Ive busted maybe 3 kits already but ive gotten it down to where ive allowed the last kit to last a while. I found preheating the line end before flaring helps a great deal. Not to mention making your own lines is great bc you can always make it fit your application/make it easier for maintenence.

1000$ of suspension components is nothing! ive gotten more than that in mine, UMI double rod end LCAs, UMI double rod end panhard bar, custom shorty adjustable tq arm with rod ends, struts, shocks, hotpart strut tower strut mounts, 2 custom sets of SFC, 8pt roll bar, springs, wonderbar, poly everything.
I have to say again that rear is sooo nice. I however love the look of my massive aluminum moser support girdle on my ford 8.8 that just makes the rear look nasty! And you kinda loose that with this rear. still tho its a frigin nasty rear.
