question about tranny and gears

i have an 82 camaro sport coupe. It was a 4 cylinder at one point(gasp) and had a 4speed manual tranny with 3.42 gears. I swapped that setup for a 305 and a 700r4, i left the 3.42 gears in it. Now i am putting a 350 in and a 400 turbo tranny. I think I might change the cam and intake on the 350 and that will be it. Question: do you think 4.10 (4.11, whatever) gears would tear me through the powerband too quick? should i maybe consider 3.73's or should i just stick to the 3.42's? i will mostly be using the car for the street, not even the highway really. i want LOTS of low end torque. My brother says i should go with the 4.1x's. but i am not so sure.

How do you like your mileage now, with your th700? It will be worse by getting rid of the overdrive, but maybe not noticeable around town. You'll get better 60ft's if you put in 3.73's, as long as you can get traction. The th400's have a higher first gear then yours, but I wouldn't say a bigger gear then 3.73 is practical for a street car, because I believe you can only calibrate the th700 for up to 3.73, I don't know about the th400's. good luck- Randy

gas mileage is not an issue. i wont be using the car as my daily driver. i will just use it to cruise around town on those nice summer days. i figured that the 3.73's would be my best choice. my brother is crazy cuz he was trying to get me to get 4.56 gears. i shot that idea out of the sky though cuz i want a cruising speed that's higher than 55mph. haha

I would get the 4.10, especially if you don't go on the freeway. They will feel very nice. My friend has a 4.10 behind a 355 with a Th350 trans and it launches nicley.
