Car: 1989 Firebird
Engine: 305
Transmission: 700r4 w/ kit
junkyard search 700r4
i have a 89 firebird. it has the 305 and the 700r4 tranny. the tranny is bad and i want to swap it out. i know certain years of the 700r4 trans is the same but i do not know them . does anyone know the years and/or makes where a 700r4 trans will fit my bird?

A lot of salvage yards have interchange information, take a look and see if they have the book to browse through. That or if you are lucky enough to live by a yard that specializes in them, they should be able to give you the hookup.

If possible, get a 1988 or up model - in mid 1987 they beefed up the tranny's iternals a bit, and the later ones will be a tad stronger/more durable.
