How hard to install rear end.
Ok, I am pretty mechanically inclined, but no astronaught. My friend has a 91 RS, with a LO3, and it has the 2.73 non posi rear end. That car screams posi. While we where out on our journey through a local junkyard today we found a 88 Iroc with rear discs that caught my eye. Also it was a 350 which I bet had the G92, because of the discs, That means the gears are 3.27 gears. I was just wandering since he has drum rears and such, How hard would it be to take this rear end out, and swap it into his, and get the rear breaks to work. The rest of the brake assemblies are there, but i don't know what is invoved in taking them out, or what all I would need, Thanks again for your help.

I was wondering also, I've got the drum rear end and was wondering what it would take if I found a 10 bolt with disc. I would guess that it would take probably a new master cylinder, but would I need different brake lines??

it's real easy to swap rears, everything is a direct bolt up. you'd need the porpotioning valve from the disk car if your car isn't equiped with it. the drum porpotioning valve is a casting while the disk one is machined.

It took me and a friend 3 hours to swap out my rear. We probably could have got it done a lot faster but we took our time and sanded down the new rear then painted it. Its really straight forward.
Hey I got a few questions about this rear swap. Do you have to change speedo gears, and if so how do you know which ones to get? I want to go from a 273 to a 342. I read the article but didnt see the answer. Also, how hard would it be to take my 273 and take out the gears and and put in the slp posi and new gears?

You will need to change the speedo gears to correct the speedo & pulse signal to ECM. You should already have a red 17 tooth driven gear in there. You need to change to a 44 tooth dark gray drive gear, pn 25513051 & 10456089 sleeve. As long as you hve 28 spline axles you can use the SLP posi. You will have set pinion depth, shim & pattern the gears. Procedures can be found in a good shop manual or you can pay someone to do it. You will need some special tools though.
