t-56 swap into BBC 1986 camaro

I would like any info anyone has on doing a t-56 swap. but with a twist. Right now i have an 86 iroc with a 468 BBC in it and it runs and drives. I am getting ready as soon as i finish buying a new house in the next month or so. have 4 offers inon 4 houses. I will be taking the iroc apart pulling the motor sending it out to have a once over it had been sitting for 12 years in a garage so some of teh seals are shot so it leaks oil and i just want it to be right so sending it out to have someone look it over.. while it is out i will be doing some stuff that i wanted done to the car but didn't get to before putting the motor in 1 being tubular k member and control arms replace all bushings and such in the front and rear suspension. also bigger sway bars and having everything just generally cleaned and put the way it is suppose to be .. car sat in a field for 10 years. it the process i was thinking about making the car a 6 speed. I have not been able to find any info on doing a t-56 big block swap into a third gen. so any info would be greatly appreciated thanks

John

Exactly the same swap for a BBC as a SBC using the LT1 version of the T56, you just need to get the correct flywheel from McLeod, Centerforce, etc..

The sticky on the T56 swap at the top of this forum has tons of info.

I just wasn't sure
A. can a t-56 handle about 600+ ft pounds of torque
B. if there was a flywheel clutch and pressure plate for a Big block
Externally balanced

It can handle 600+ lb-ft, but like anything else, the more power the more stress on components, especially if they have alot of miles/wear on them. I ran my stock (100K, raced) T56 behind my 600lb-ft small block for a year before rebuilding it. Other folks have broken T56s behind 350 hp cars. The weak parts inside the T56 are known and have OEM or aftermarket replacements to push the T56 out to 700lb-ft+.

Both Centerforce and McLeod sell conversion flywheels for the BBC/T56 combo. All LT1-T56 clutches are based upon the LT4 setup because of it's unique pull-style setup.

You can easily have the T56 rebuilt for viper spec parts, at which point i think its rated for 750 lb-ft?

Mike has good info, hes helped me out quite a bit.

McLeod has an application chart, I suspect Centerforce, etal do also.. Since there are various BBC applications also, there's no one part# to give you..

http://www.mcleodind.com/application...wheels_gm.html

1993-97 CAM. W/85 DN CRANK PULL 1970-90 454 C/B
1993-97 CAM. W/85 DN CRANK PULL 1991-UP 454 C/B
1993-97 CAM. W/85 DN CRANK PULL CLUTCH 502 C/B

Would be 3 of the main BBC/LT1-T56 applications.
